Feb 7 A Conversation with Ronnie Milsap Nashville, TN Soulful, instantly identifiable vocals; deft piano playing; genre-straddling stylistic choices; and dozens of #1 country hits, including “Smoky Mountain Rain,” “Pure Love,” and “It Was Almost Like a Song” led Ronnie Milsap to multiple Grammy wins and membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Milsap arrived in Nashville on December 26, 1972, to headline the showroom at the King of the Road hotel. He was an immediate sensation: Within weeks, he had a manager. Within three months, he was recording hits for RCA Nashville. Thirty-five Milsap recordings have topped Billboard’s country chart, and he has won three CMA trophies for Male Vocalist of the Year and one for Entertainer of the Year. Milsap is a major influence on contemporary country stars including Keith Urban and Hunter Hayes, an entertainer’s entertainer who has drawn raves from industry giants Ray Charles, Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, and Stevie Wonder. Milsap will discuss his own early inspirations, his career, and his tumultuous path to success, as he endured childhood abandonment and abuse, overcame the sightlessness that others viewed as a disability, and willed his way to one of modern country music’s most remarkable careers. Hosted by museum writer-editor Peter Cooper, who penned the liner notes for Milsap’s career-spanning boxed set, Ronnie Milsap: The RCA Albums Collection. The program will be streamed live at countrymusichalloffame.org/streaming. Presented in support of the exhibit Ronnie Milsap: A Legend in My Time. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members. Limited seating. Program pass required. learn more
