Savannah is the largest town on the Tennessee River, and its Main Street leads right down to the banks, where a ferry used to transport passengers back and forth.

It’s the seat of Hardin County, created from land ceded by the Chickasaw in 1818 and named for Joseph Hardin, a Revolutionary War officer and early Tennessee legislator. As the largest town near Shiloh, Savannah has a rich Civil War history and its residents take great pride in preserving its heritage and Southern charm.
