8TH ANNUAL LIVING HISTORY ANTEBELLUM CIVILIAN LIFE RE-ENACTMENT SET FOR SEPT. 11-13

Transport to a mid-19th century village during the 8th annual Living History Event 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11-13 at Historic Lairdland Farm House.

The 19th Alabama Civilian Corp re-enactors will recreate daily life during the Civil War era wearing historically accurate costumes and using appropriate equipment. Demonstrations will include blacksmithing, weaving, cooking, camping, sewing, laundering, medicine, music and dancing and more.

The Civil War Museum will be open, and guests may tour the plantation’s original smokehouse and 19th century traveler’s cottage. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I, a special exhibit of artifacts and memorabilia will be on display during the Living History Weekend. Doughboy re-enactor Russ Spry will discuss life as a World War I soldier.

The house will not be open for tours during the living history weekend but may be toured at other times throughout the year by calling 931-363-2205 in advance.

Admission to the Living History Event is $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for children under age eight.
