150TH COMMEMORATION OF THE BATTLE OF JOHNSONVILLE

A full schedule of events will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Johnsonville 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Johnsonville State Historic Park and the Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park.

Cannons will fire and special living history demonstrations and programs will take place. Union Army stories will be told at Johnsonville State Historic Park and Confederate Army programs will be conducted at Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. Artillery and infantry firing demonstrations in the military camp, civilian activities and cavalry demonstrations will also take place.

On the anniversary of the Battle of Johnsonville, a walking tour of original Union defenses will take place 1 p.m. Nov. 4 at Johnsonville State Historic Park.

Confederate troops under the leadership of Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked the Union supply base Nov. 4, 1864 at Johnsonville. The Federal base was nearly destroyed by the Confederates during the fray.

Johnsonville State Historic Park is named for former President Andrew Johnson and Union Military Governor during the Civil War. This 2000-acre park located in Humphreys County, commemorates the site of the Battle of Johnsonville and the historic town site that existed from 1864-1944 prior to the formation of Kentucky Lake.
