Johnsonville State Historic Park will commemorate the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Johnsonville Nov. 3-4 as part of a living history weekend.
Cannon and musket firings and infantry drills will be demonstrated. Jerry Wooten, park manager, will lead a walking tour beginning at 2 p.m., Nov 3 and Nov 4. Hear the story of how General Nathan Bedford Forrest led a tactical victory against the Union supply depot on Nov. 4, 1864. The hike lasts approximately one and a half hours.
The new visitor’s center will have exhibits showcasing the Battle of Johnsonville and a film about the battle, depicting stories of soldiers who were a part of it. The film also depicts the Colored Troops; some who were slaves and joined the Union Army.
