Town Hall Party was one of Southern California’s most popular country music television programs of the 1950s. Filmed in front of a live audience each Saturday night in Compton, California, the show was eventually broadcast around the country, as well as internationally on the Armed Forces Television Service. This episode features regular cast members Johnny Bond, the Collins Kids, Joe and Rose Lee Maphis, Fiddlin’ Kate, Skeets McDonald, Billy Mize, host Jay Stewart, and Merle Travis, plus special guests. This program is presented in support of the Museum’s exhibition The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and California Country, Support provided by the Academy of Country Music, Ford Motor Company Fund and SunTrust. 60 minutes.
