Tucked away in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee lies the tiny town of Bell Buckle with its quaint tree lined streets. But on June 21st this the little town will become a bustle of excitement and activity when it celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its wildly popular RC-Moon Pie Festival. This year’s festival will spew forth exciting new games, a new crowning, and the biggest Box Office news of the year – The return of your favorite Synchronized Wading Characters! After two decades of dry humor on a wet stage, the beloved characters will once again reunite. The stage will be a little different, the story may have changed, but your favorite characters are reuniting to celebrate in a way no one else could ever celebrate marshmellow and carbonation glory! Known as the first “fast food” meal, these two Southern traditions, RC and a Moon Pie, are brought together for a grand celebration Bell Buckle style. The idea for the Festival first began in 1994 as a way to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Moon Pie and to bring tourists to Bell Buckle. Bell Buckle called the Chattanooga Bakery to see about throwing a Birthday Party for Moon Pie. Little could anyone have expected what a huge event this would become! This event draws visitors not only from across the nation but around the world as well. The year following the first Festival, the Atlanta Olympics inspired the Moon Pie Games and the formation of the “Down Home Divas” Synchronized Wading Team. Led and choreographed by Carla Webb, the Synchronized Wading event, a fascinating take on the Olympics’ Synchronized Swimming, is a “tongue in cheek” musical skit performed in a wading pool. This event has evolved into one of the traditional highlights of the event. In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Bell Buckle RC-Moon Pie Festival, favorite characters will return for encores to commemorate this nationally treasured event. Nothing, not hip replacements, lasik surgery, botox gone wrong, will keep these famous characters from returning to where it all began for this incredible reunion. Along with Moon Pie and RC, we are sure to get “snack” peeks at GooGoo, Coke, Jack, and many other delightfully inspired friends. The day of the Festival begins with the RC-Moon Pie 10K Run. This certified run has become a major running competition with 1,000 runners entering each year. The day continues with games, contests, a parade, coronation of an RC King and Moon Pie Queen, 100 art and craft booths, live entertainment, cloggers, Country music and bluegrass, and 20 food booths featuring such Southern fares as Tennessee Smoked Barbecue, hand squeezed lemonade and deep fat fried Moon Pies! The perfect ending to the day is the cutting of the World’s Largest Moon Pie – free dessert for all! In Bell Buckle, when they say “let them eat cake” they really mean it and serve it to you with a gooey smile! A day of fun for young and old celebrating THREE southern traditions: RC Colas, Moon Pies and Historic Bell Buckle, Tennessee- close to home but a world away. Bell Buckle Chamber of Commerce P.O.
