The rededication of the restored Lytle Monument will formally commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga. U.S. General William Lytle was widely known as the "poet warrior" of the Civil War, and his work was beloved to soldiers of both armies. Lytle fell mortally wounded while trying to maintain the Union line. On the battlefield that night, Confederates reverently stood guard over his body until it could be returned to the Union Army. Join the National Park Service, local dignitaries, and the General Lytle Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans from Cincinnati, OH for the public rededication.
