The second annual General Motors Arts in the Park art festival, set to take place Saturday, October 19, 2013, in Maury County Park, promises something for everyone in the family even the family dog. The festivities will begin at 8:00am with the Art of Healthy Living 5k and one mile fun run presented by Walgreen’s, McDonald’s of Maury County, and Pet Pals of Maury County. Mike Niedzielski, assistant store manager said, “Walgreens is excited to be participate in an event that is centered around health. Walgreens is committed to helping people get, stay, and live well.” Free sports massage will be offered after the 5k and Fun Run...compliments of Tennessee Carrier Institute. Guest will delight in a unique viewing and shopping experience when more than 40 artisans open for business from 9:00am until5:00pm. Artisans will offer original works in a variety of styles, mediums and price ranges. Paintings, glass, jewelry, pottery, photography, wearable, reclaimed and repurposed works of art will be available for show and sale. “We have an amazing lineup of musicians scheduled to performing on this year’s First Farmers and Merchants Stage”, said Sonjalyn Dickson Rine, recreation specialist with Maury County Parks & Recreation. Artist include Logan Blade, Roy Harper, Damien Boggs, Makky Kaylor, RedHead Express and more. Discover your inner artist in our hands on "Picasso’s Playground"...an interactive experience for the whole family. Adults and children will enjoy working with award winning artists to create their own masterpiece. Susan Jones will instruct a sunflower “Paint-Along”. Receive tips and pointers from professional photographer Brian Sherman (The first 20 participants will receive a free disposable camera.) Chalk with Quan McFall. Author Kathleen Kidder will help you pin a verse or write a short short. Work in clay with “The Art Lady” Jamie Moon and try your hand at acrylics’ with artist Matthew A. Fulkerson. Completed works will be judged and prizes awarded.
