The museum presents a full day of bluegrass-inspired performances, featuring top players Jim Hurst, NewTown, Tim May and Gretchen Priest May with Alan O’Bryant, and the Claire Lynch Band. Hurst is a two-time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year. He will open the program, followed by bluegrass band NewTown, led by fiddler and singer Kati Penn, based out of Lexington, Kentucky. Multi-instrumentalist Tim May and fiddler Gretchen Priest-May play in the band Plaidgrass, mixing Celtic music with traditional bluegrass. They are joined by banjo player Alan O’Bryant, a member of the Grammy-nominated Nashville Bluegrass Band. The Claire Lynch Band features three-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year Claire Lynch; two time IBMA award-winning bass player Mark Schatz; Doc Watson Guitar Champion Matt Wingate; and Bryan McDowell, the first person to win the National Fiddle, Mandolin, and Flat Pick Guitar Championships all in one year. Takes place in the Museum’s Ford Theater. Presented by the Crump family and Cotten Music Center, Honoring George A. and Marjorie S. Crump.
