The Jackson Symphony’s Christmas Gift to the Community will take place on Friday, December 6th at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church on North Highland Avenue. The repertoire for this concert will consist of selections such as Handel’s Messiah, Rachmaninoff’s Borgorodiste Devo (Ave Maria) and hymns such as “Silent Night! Holy Night!” and “Joy to the World,” to name a few. Conducting this concert will be Dr. Chris Mathews, Associate Professor of Music and Department Chair of the Union University School of Music. Dr. Mathews also is the Director of Choral Activities, the University Singers, Voices of Proclamation and the Men’s Choir. A graduate of Union University, Mathew went on to get his M.M. at Southwest Missouri State University and his D.M.A. at the University of Kentucky.
