Cooking on the Square
Nearly 50 cooks are expected to come out and serve up their hot Cajun dishes; and with Les Kerr & the Bayou Band performing, it will be an event not to be missed!
So, what is Cooking on the Square? Way back in 1996 it was suggested to have a fundraiser to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. The idea came up to have a "soup" lunch where patrons make a donation to Habitat for Humanity and receive a ceramic bowl and enjoy some good food and music on the Courthouse lawn. It was a simple idea; that we humble ourselves and put our hands out and ask for something (gumbo to fill our stomachs) and at the same time think toward humbling ourselves to serve families in need by helping build houses with Habitat for Humanity.
Twelve years and countless bowls later, Cooking on the Square sees more than 1,500 people come out each year to fill their stomachs and warm their hearts to support Habitat for Humanity.
Cooking on the Square is held on the historic Courthouse Square in Cookeville, Tennessee!
