Join us at Johnsonville State Historic Park on April 5th for Park Day sponsored by the Civil War Trust. The event is part of an annual national program where the public is encouraged to visit their favorite Civil War park and participate with park staff in conducting a project that will help enhance the public's appreciation of the Civil War and the park's main features. At Johnsonville State Historic Park meet the park staff at 10:00 a.m. at the Upper Redoubt parking lot (After entering the park, go left up the big hill). The project for Park Day will be to remove underbrush and rake leaves inside the historic Upper Redoubt constructed in 1864 by Union troops who were garrisoned at Johnsonville during the Civil War. Hand tools and water will be supplied. Bring a bag lunch, gloves, a hat, protective eye wear and wear work clothing. Boots are encouraged. A light rain jacket is also encouraged in the event of rain. Reservations are not required, just show up. For directions go to the park's web site or call (931) 535-2789.
