The Franklin Woods Community Hospital Criterium Bicycle Race

In 2009 the Criterium was added as the first Blue Plum Sunday event. The many turn course, puts the competitors and spectators only feet apart with speeds up to 40 mph. The wall of sound, from the spectators, excites the racers and the racers excite the crowd. There are many places on the course to see the racers inches apart as they negotiate the turns. The Amateur categories of racers start at 8:00am and continue with 8 separate fields. The Tupelo Honey Kids Fun Race is for youth 9 years old and younger who do one lap of the same course as the professionals. The kids race starts at 2:10 pm. The professionals race at 2:30 pm to showcase the potential Olympians. There are about 400 total participants. These races are the final of the Johnson City Omnium with $12,000+ cash prizes.
