Del McCrory Band
Vince Gill says it simply: "I'd rather hear Del McCoury sing 'Are You Teasing Me' than just about anything." For fifty years, Del's music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans. When the Del McCoury Band were propelled to the top of the bluegrass world in the 90's, they were also viewed as a unique torchbearer for the entire sweep of bluegrass and its history. Del's open-mindedness put McCourys in onstage jams with Phish and on the road and in the studio with Steve Earle, bringing the group many new listeners in new arenas. The group appeared on prime time television, toured rock clubs and college campuses, and found itself welcome at country and even jazz-oriented music festivals and venues. Del may be turning 70, but as he sings in one of his own songs, "Don't ever let it be said darling, that what I do don't bring me joy...I'm a guitar-picking, bluegrass-singing, never grow up boy."
