Award-winning Country-Soul Crooner, T. Graham Brown, set to kick off Tennessee State Finals @ 6:00 PM ... The Texaco Country Showdown is open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, individuals, or groups of up to seven members who have not performed on a record listed in the national record charts within eighteen months preceding local competition. Texaco Country Showdown has helped open doors for many of country music’s most popular artists from Martina McBride and Tim McGraw to Miley Cyrus, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert. The success doesn’t happen without support from Texaco, our corporate partner. Their support helps keep the tradition of the Showdown alive and gives struggling new artists a chance to showcase their talent and new music. Texaco is a brand that exemplifies the American Dream and pride in both our communities and ourselves. Texaco is committed to making the Showdown bigger and better than ever before. The 30+-year old Texaco Country Showdown begins each spring with over 450 live shows produced by country music radio stations. Local winners advance to State and then to 1 of 5 Regional showdowns. These 5 winners then compete at a nationally syndicated television special. This year’s show will air nationwide in April on syndicated television and overseas to military bases on government access channels. Over the years, stars such as Garth Brooks, Sara Evans & Brad Paisley have competed in the Country Showdown. At the 1983 National Final, Martina McBride & Neal McCoy competed against one another, only to lose to The Jim Arnold Band. In 1985, Sweethearts Of The Rodeo won the National Final before becoming one of country music's hottest duos. This Tennessee State Final is to determine who will represent the state in the South Regional Finals @ the Louisiana State Fair in Shreveport ... all of the Tennessee Final's state contestants have already been determined state-wide, from their winning in area competitions held throughout Tennessee, during the Summer. These nine contestants vying for the State title, represent some of the best new up-and-coming talent the state has to offer! This year's competition will be high-lighted with an opening concert by award winning country-soul singer T. Graham Brown. In the event of any cold or threatening weather, the event will be moved indoors, just a block north, to the Lobelville Public Works / Civic Center Building.
