The Orangery
Located in Knoxville, TN
Declared a "perennial favorite" by Southern Living for "its upscale menu and romantic ambience," The Orangery welcomes guests with a sweep of French charm and grandeur. The legendary Orangery is the stuff restaurant dreams are made of, with inimitable splendid character and perfectly prepared delicacies.
If The Orangery could talk, it would tell stories from a colorful and rich past, including that its massive spiral staircase was rescued from a pre-Civil War mansion, the paneling hails from the boardroom of a once-prestigious bank, courtyard bricks harken from a building used for horse auctions, and talented musicians tickled the ivories of the lobby's Steinway. The restaurant boasts several dining rooms on the main floor, all decorated in regency style, while the Phoenix ballroom at the top of the staircase can accommodate up to 300 people for larger gatherings.
While closed for a brief period, the iconic Orangery has re-opened with new Executive Chef John Bryant as the artist, under the management of local businessman David Kiger. Chef Bryant observes that an occasion at The Orangery is "more than just a meal, there's a history lesson in every room." A lunch or dinner at The Orangery has always been a impressive affair. Chef Bryant and owner Kiger plan to continue the mission of The Orangery: that is, "to provide the most memorable food in an intimate, unforgettable atmosphere," said Kiger. The menu has been updated with a fusion of classical French cuisine and traditional Southern accents. Creative entrees and daily specials will delight and awe guests, while many of the "old favorites" are still on the menu. "We've just given them our own finesse," said Kiger. "It's the same great book, just a new chapter."
Among stellar commendations, The Orangery has been awarded: 3 Four-Diamond awards, American Automobile Association; 10 DiRoNA awards (Distinguished Restaurants of North America); 7 "Best of Knoxville" awards, MetroPulse; 9 "Awards of Excellence," The Wine Spectator; 15 Four-Star awards, The Mobil Travel Guide, and more.
