In 1996, Sevierville native Dolly Parton founded Imagination Library, a program designed to boost literacy in Sevier County by sending a book a month to every child from birth through age five. Today the program has expanded throughout the state, serving half of all preschoolers in Tennessee and helping better prepare them for school, but also to 39 other states, Canada and the United Kingdom.
