To me, Tennessee is the most beautiful place on earth. There are so many things to see and do there.
When I was eleven years old my parents took me to Gatlinburg for the first time. It was dark when we got there so I couldn't see the beautiful mountains till the next morning. I came out of the motel and just stood there, drinking in the beauty. I was hooked from then on.
I was an only child, and my parents and I went to Gatlinburg and the Smokies every year. It was a place you could never tire of. My parents took my boyfriend and me to Gatlinburg in October of 1976. We rode the Gatlinburg Sky Lift. We bought a souvenir photo, then, and again on our 25th anniversary, so, as you can see my husband and I have carried on the tradition. We have been married 31 years now.
It wasn't till we got married and had two daughters that we found Cade's Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Of all the times we had been down there we didn't know about this beautiful valley. We got up early one morning, bought a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts in Pigeon Forge, and took off for Cade's Cove. It was unbelievable!
The peace and tranquility of this beautiful valley is indescribable. We saw so many deer, which I absolutely love. When I'm there I know I must be in heaven. It is so peaceful and quiet. We just kept driving around in circles; always seeming to see something new each time.
We have found that if you go through Cade's Cove in September you are more likely to see bears. We saw seven there last September. The best time to see wildlife is in the early morning or late in the afternoon. We also saw deer, turkey's and butterflies. There were all kinds of butterflies on one of the gravel roads in the Cove. We have also seen coyotes.
Cade's Cove has it all. The beautiful, misty mountains, and the serene valley and all the wildlife. What more could you ask for? It's truly a bit of heaven on earth. I will never tire of the most beautiful spot in Tennessee and I will go there as often, and as long, as I am able to.
It's a shame that my parents never wandered far off the beaten path, as my mom would have loved Cade's Cove. Whenever we go there, now, I think of them and the beautiful memories they brought to my life.
