As a young girl I always wanted to travel away from home and visit the great state of Tennessee. From my geography classes in school and tales told by others who had been, I knew I would someday see this magical place.
A place, I heard, where the road rises to the sky and the clouds rest on the ground beneath your feet. Trees so lush, that they canopy across the heavens in cool shades of green, and where the rays of the sun stream through the branches with warm golden beams. The freshness in the air after a spring or summer rain where the wild flowers of thousands of species seems to sing in glorious unity...the songs of life. The colors of these masterpeices arrayed like a kaleidoscope of rainbows swirling in every direction.Where the wildlife thrive in their own habitat seemingly unaware of the humans' curiosity.
I did visit this glorious place in 1995. It was called the Smoky Mountains. As I stood atop the highest point I saw this bluish smoke resting upon these mountains. I knew this is where I belonged, and my husband felt it too. Even part of our heritage lay here. I have some Cherokee blood in my veins and him Scottish Cherokee.
What a treat it was to visit the Cherokee reservation just a short drive across the mountain. We have wanted to move to Tennessee ever since that trip.
We never got to see the winter, but the stories I've heard from friends... Oh my,where the mountains would come alive with the white blankets of snow, and the ski resorts are filled with family and friends. As evening draw near you'll find people nestled around fire places sipping hot chocolate and telling their tales of their experiences on the slopes. The winter festivals fill the calender with activities in celebration of all the special holidays.
We want this so badly, that I spend most of my free time on the Internet surfing the many sights of this wonderful state! I was able to veiw the multicolors of yellow, orange and blazing reds of the forest in the fall. So many art festivals--now that's truly my passion!
Since my last visit I now have six grandchildren. With me it was always about the beauty of nature and all the wonderful festivals. Now with them in my life I have a new appreciation for amusement parks and entertainment.
Guess what? Tennessee has it all. Fine dining to good ole family cooking like momma made. Visit the Smokey Mountain railroad excursions to Dollywood amusemant park! Let's not forget the Grand Ole Opry. They just have everything for all ages from infancy to a hundred years old! They have something for everyone. I'm telling you this is a piece of heaven on earth...
Oh, how my heart yearns to be right in the middle of all this wonder. It's all just a dream at this point for us...but it sure doesn't cost a anything to dream...and we're dreaming to move to Tennessee!...Like I said before, a piece of heaven on earth! A Tennessee Mountain Girl at heart!
