I have passed through Tennessee on several different routes over the years as I traveled from southern Michigan to southern Florida. I have even spent a week in Nashville.
But nothing has been as great as the Thanksgiving I spent last year in Bluff City. Printers Alley, the state capital and the Smoky Mountains were quickly forgotten as we pulled into Bristol Motor Speedway for the most awesome and spectacular light show put on by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Never have I enjoyed a tour like this. Everything was light and motion. Even the concession stand was like an underwater aquarium. Watching drag cars speeding ahead of us in lights as we drove down the dragstrip was thrilling, but the whole thing was topped with the sign that said "gentleman start your motors". And we were off and racing around the track. What a thrill! I have to say it was almost as much fun as watching the big boys do it.
I tell everyone who will listen just what a treat they are in for if they spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Tennessee. The show goes on till after New Year's, too. Take my advice and make Tennessee your place to spend your winter holiday.
