My favorite place to visit is the Gatlinburg, Tn. area. A family member moved there many years ago, and my young family and I would drive from Illinois to spend the Christmas Holiday with them.
Everything about Gatlinburg is fun and exciting! We always hiked Chimney Top, and other surrounding hiking trails. Laurel Falls was a favorite of ours. I have a photo of my children in front of the falls in winter and in summer, which gives a completely different idea of what the falls look like. We were constantly doing outdoors activities and my now grown sons have only good memories of Gatlinburg.
Cades Cove is a must for visitors. And what can I say about the Apple Barn cider and pie? YUM!!! I have been fortunate to travel to foreign countries and I still love Gatlinburg. We have been there in every season and each one has it's own unique aspect.
Dollywood was always an exciting place to go. My sons loved the rides and I enjoyed the shows. Following their dad's death in 1991, I decided we would go away somewhere for Christmas and not stay in Missouri. I chose Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg as our spot to bring "good memories" to our broken hearts. This state has many things for old and young alike and it's a terrific place to bring your family.
