Springtime Garden Gallivanting in East Tennessee

6 Places to Visit | Plan for 2-3 days

Guaranteed to turn any onlooker’s thumb green, Tennessee’s gardens are a sight you must see. Travel the horticultural path and visit a few mountain views as well.

Start your sightseeing in the southeast part of the state at Rock City, a cultivation of over 400 native plants, ancient rock formations and amazing panoramic views. Rise and shine and get ready for another day of relaxing rambling. Head east on Highway 75 to the Sunshine Hollow Gardens in Athens, TN. An amazing array of southern hospitality in the form of 1,750 flowers and a delightful bakery, Sunshine Hollow displays gardens, forest, wildlife and delicious food. Go east about another hour and stretch your legs at Crescent Bend in Knoxville, a short one-hour and inexpensive tour of an historical home, art exhibit and formal garden. And if you’re here in April, drive through the Dogwood Arts Festival just down the street. Get back on I-40/75 and head northwest to Lake City, TN, and Savage Gardens, a unique sanctuary for rare and sensitive wildflowers. Park your car for the night (or two) at Skunk Ridge Farm Bed and Breakfast. You’ll enjoy this relaxing all-suite escape with nature trail, wildlife and tennis and golf nearby as you complete your botanical bonanza.
