If you’re an avid hiker, you’ve probably dreamt of hiking on the Appalachian Trail. Tennessee is the perfect place to make this dream come true. The Appalachian Trail runs a total of 2,174 miles from Maine to Georgia, with 292.7 miles of that in Tennessee. Some of the most scenic portions of this trail are through the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. With a total of 71.6 miles in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this part of the Appalachian Trail offers day and overnight hikes. See the highest point on the Appalachian Trail, in the Great Smoky Mountains and in Tennessee at Clingman’s Dome. At 6,643 feet, Clingman’s Dome is located in the east region of Tennessee near Newfound Gap.
