Spring Break in East Tennessee

Spend your spring break in East Tennessee exploring this region with your kids. The American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge brings to life the WWII Manhattan History Project exhibit that created Oak Ridge. Exhibits are interactive, and they have are many hands-on displays to enjoy. This attraction will literally make your hair stand on end! Enjoy the Knoxville Zoo and discover natural exhibits and grasslands. Don’t miss the Kids Cove area of this great outdoor attraction.

On your second day, head south toward Athens to enjoy one of the most fun-filled agri-tourism attractions in the state—Mayfield Dairy Farms Visitors Center. Begin the tour with a 10-minute history overview followed by a guided tour of the milk and ice cream production plant. Going a few miles north, travel toward Sweetwater to the Lost Sea, one of the few U.S. Registered Natural Landmarks. The Lost Sea is the largest underground lake in the United States. Guided tours of the cave include a boat ride in glass-bottom boats. Go a short distance southeast to see Bald River Falls located on the Cherohala Skyway near Tellico Plains. The Cherohala Skyway is one of two national scenic byways located in the state and climbs 800 to 5,300 feet through the Cherokee and Nantahala Forests.

On your last day in Tennessee, head south toward Chattanooga for a fun-filled day at the Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park. The park has over 30 rides, 2 roller coasters and paddle boats. Enjoy the late afternoon at Rock City Gardens atop Chattanooga’s Lookout Mountain area. See Rock City’s unique rock formations and scenic breathtaking views. See over 400 species of plants on more than 14 acres. Don’t miss the Fairyland Caverns area while at this attraction, and try to get through Fat Man’s Squeeze!
