Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Park Ranger Bob Miller works in the office of the Superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the Park's Gatlinburg headquarters. Bob has been the "voice of the Smokies" for 1989 as Public Affairs Officer of America's most-visited national park.
Bob is the Park's fund-raising coordinator and is the Park's primary liaison with the Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park which has raised over $23 million to support the Park since their formation in 1993. As friends liaison Bob coordinates development and communication of the Park's annual and long-term support needs to the Friends staff and Board, and to the public and prospective donors.
He started with the National Park Service in 1974 in Washington, DC where he supervised the Rangers who provide information, along with walks, talks and tour at popular visitor destination including the White Hose, the Monuments and Memorials, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and was Site Manager of the Ford's Theater. Prior to moving to the Smokies in 1989 Bob was Administrative Officer with responsibility for managing all the contracting, budget, personnel and property management functions at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor Maine.
Bob is originally from Michigan's Upper Peninsula and earned a Bachelors degree in Biology with a Secondary Education minor from Michigan State University. His wife, Elaine, is Development Director at a faith-based health clinic. Their daughter, Caitlin, is 2006 graduate of East Tennessee State University who is pursuing a career in the National Park Service. He is an avid camper, hiker, skier, boater, fiction reader and loves to cook spicy, exotic dishes.
