Get in the Olympic Spirit Ice Skating in Middle Tennessee

Inspiration is probably running like fire and ice in your veins after watching the Winter Olympics. The pursuit of excellence demands ice-cold determination, and we’ve all heard some amazing stories of resilience and faith and perseverance. meg skating

No doubt you’ve marveled at the grace of a champion skater on ice, blades cutting a perfect edge, bodies moving in symmetry to music, dynamic speed, breathtaking agility, poetry in motion.

Enough watching. It’s time for you to step on the ice and discover your own talent – yes, right here in the heart of Music City. Centennial Sportsplex offers ice skating classes for the brave (or timid) first-timer or the more accomplished skater, and can take you all the way from basic to advanced Freestyle 5 level.

This time I won’t be participating, after tearing my ACL on the ski slopes in Colorado this Christmas, but I’d be right out there if I could. The Ice Skating Institute (ISI) learn-to-skate program is fun for all ages and abilities and can set you on your way to speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, or recreational skating for the pure joy of it.

There’s action all the time on the two full-size ice rinks. Bring your friends to a public session for fun and exhilaration, have a party on ice, participate in a skating school, join an ice hockey team, or take private lessons for all the attention. You don’t need your own skates. Skate rental and sharpening is available at the rink. As a great extra for a skating party ($60 for 10 people), you can add an instructor for just $49.

Every December the winter season highlight is the annual Holiday Ice Show. If you’re a skating school student, you are also eligible to participate and experience being a star on the ice! holiday on ice crowd

At this point I need to advise you that the Centennial Ice Rinks are undergoing a major renovation this year, and will be closed from mid-April till September 2014, so enjoy the winter skating season while you can.

The Centennial Sportsplex, administered by Metro Nashville Parks & Recreation, is the ultimate fitness, recreation and sports complex in Middle Tennessee, offering great deals on annual or monthly memberships. Where else will you find championship tennis courts, Olympic swimming pools, ice skating rinks and a complete fitness center?
