A peaceful park for enjoying nature, Big Cypress was named for a national champion tree that was 1,350 years old before being killed by a lightning strike in 1976. In the floodplain of the Obion River’s Middle Fork, the park is a great site for picnicking, wildflower walks, bird watching and hiking and includes a 330-acre natural area and 27-acre adjacent park.

In Big Cypress State Park, native wildflowers and native trees include the showy evening primrose, bald cypress, and dogwood. Wildlife includes bluebirds, bats, and bald eagles.

The Big Cypress Fall Festival in mid-October features arts and crafts, birds of prey programs, and musical entertainment. 

Directions: From Jackson, take U.S. Hwy 45E north through Greenfield: then just north of Greenfield, turn left on Hwy 445 (Kimery Store Rd.), and follow the road for approximately 5 miles to the natural area entrance on the right.

Big Cypress Tree State Natural Area is located in Northwest Tennessee in Weakley County seven miles from the town of Greenfield, and may be reached by following the signs beginning at the junction of Highway 45E and Hwy. 445, just north of Greenfield.
