Big Springs Primitive Baptist Church

, TN

Built in ca. 1796 on a section of land that was, at the time, still a part of North Carolina, this church was known as the Big Spring Meeting House until organized as a Baptist church in 1800. No services were held in the church from April 1862 to May 1866 because it was used as a hospital for both Confederate and Union soldiers. The building is one of the oldest churches in use in Tennessee and is kept in perfect condition by its members.
