This areaÂ’s milder climate and four mineral springs made it the perfect location for Bon Aqua Springs Resort — the largest health spa and summer retreat in Middle Tennessee in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its mineral waters were used to “treat” ailments from anemia to yellow fever. Recently, conservationists and state government worked together to acquire this land and create John Noel at Bon Aqua State Natural Area (Old Hwy 46, Bon Aqua Off-site manager: 615-532-0431), saving and protecting stands of trees up to 400 years old. While youÂ’re in Bon Aqua, stop at Beacon Light Tea Room (6276 Hwy 100, Bon Aqua 931-670-3880) for incredible biscuits and preserves, gift shop, and inspirational décor.
