Canaan Baptist Church

This 1917 church was originally organized in 1868, just after
the end of the Civil War. It is the oldest African-American
Missionary Baptist Church in Covington, and is still considered
a cornerstone of the African-American community here. It
has been listed on the National Register of historic Places for its
role in shaping Tipton County’s African-American heritage.
