Cowan, TN

Cowan Railroad Museum features photos, relics and memorabilia from the age of steam and steel located in a 1904 train depot listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The depot itself features a model railroad layout and a Smithsonian photo exhibition of area industry. The museum grounds feature a rare Porter-type steam locomotive, a diesel-electric switch locomotive, boxcar, flatcar and rare NC&StL caboose. The museum is only steps away from shops, restaurants, and the old railroad hotel. The University of the South is only seven miles away. Falls Mill and Jack Daniels Distillery are less than an hour's drive.

Directions: Hwy 41A, downtown Cowan at the railroad tracks. From I-24, take exit 134 at Monteagle/Sewanee and drive Highway 41A "down the mountain" to Cowan. From Highway 64, take the Cowan/Sewanee/Winchester exit at Highway 41A and proceed east.
