Founded in 1867 and considered one of the country's best historically black universities, Fisk has produced outstanding graduates including: W.E.B. Du Bois, famous author; Margaret Murray Washington, wife of Booker T. Washington; John Hope Franklin, premier African-American historian; Nikki Giovanni, nationally-known poet; and many others.
