Hermitage Gardenwww.thehermitage.com Nashville, TNAndrew Jackson hired an English gardener, William Frost, in 1819 at the recommendation of a friend to plan and lay out the garden at The Hermitage. The garden covers more than an acre and contains many of the flowers available in the 1800s. It was a place that Rachel Jackson loved so much that President Jackson had a special gazebo-like tomb erected for her burial. The border bricks were fired in the kiln at the Hermitage. They are beveled at the top, longer and thicker than regular bricks. Floral areas in the garden have small markers placed in the ground for identification. |
