This little town is the birthplace of Opry greats Roy Acuff and Carl Smith. If you're lucky, the Union Historical Society Museum (including the Roy Acuff Museum, pictured) will be open when you visit. Call ahead to make sure it's entirely run by volunteers. Across the street is Pete's Place, a favorite local restaurant. Stop by for delicious steak or catfish. On weekends, take in WMRD FM's Saturday Night Jamboree or the live gospel show on Sunday evenings, both featuring local talent with admission by donation.
