Start in Ocoee and travel east. The byway begins when you enter the Cherokee National Forest. Travel east on SR 40. The byway forks at the junction with FS-77. You can take FS-77 north until the byway ends at the Oswald Dome Overlook just past Benton Springs, or continue east on SR-40 until the byway ends at the eastern boundary of the Cherokee National Forest. Once known as the Old Copper Road, the Ocoee Scenic Byway was the first designated National Forest Scenic Byway in the United States. It is 26 mile road that winds through what is locally known as Upper and Lower Polk County. They byway also includes the Chilhowee Mountain Drive on Forest Route FR77 just across from Ocoee Lake in the Cherokee National Forest.
