Passport to Cherokee HeritageCleveland, TNWhat is now known as the Ocoee Region was once the gateway to the Cherokee Nation. In order for a citizen of the newly created United States to enter, one must receive a passport from the Cherokee Indian Agency. All of this was located just south of the Hiwassee River in present-day Bradley County, Tennessee and its environs. The richness of the history of this are being shared with you, some of it interpreted and some of newly rediscovered.
