Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art

Memphis, TN

Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art

The Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art is located within the borders of the Peabody Place entertainment and retail district in the heart of Downtown Memphis. Asian and European art and artifacts in the museum’s collection include ivory carvings, cloisonné, cinnabar and jade sculptures from the Qing Dynasty, as well as imperial furnishings and textiles. Other treasures include objects from Russia, Scandinavia and Italy. In addition, the
museum has recently opened a gallery
devoted to contemporary Judaica.
The museum’s holdings were collected
by Belz Enterprises CEO Mr. Jack Belz and his wife Marilyn, who established the museum as a way of sharing their art with Mid-South communities and visitors to Downtown Memphis. The museum’s educational activity guide for Memphis-area students includes background information on Chinese language, folklore and songs. The museum’s Dynasty Room is available
for rental. Tour groups of 25 or more can also participate in an afternoon tea, a light contemporary lunch or a Chinese feast. Distinctive
gift items for special occasions are
available for sale in the museum’s gift shop. The museum’s entrance is located inside the lobby of the Pembroke Square building at 119. S. Main St. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults, $5.00 for seniors and $4 for students.
