Sweetwater, TN

This little town was established in the 1850s along Sweet Water Creek to take advantage of its location on the East Tennessee & Georgia Railroad. Step back in time when you visit the historic rail car, unique shops and eateries that make up the charming downtown district. The Sweetwater Heritage Museum is located just off Main Street, and highlights transportation heritage as well as history of the Tennessee Military Academy.

Don' t miss your chance to see the Lost Sea, America 's largest underground lake. The caverns are rich with Civil War history and artifacts from the Cherokees. Take a glass bottom boat ride or a guided tour of this registered National Natural Landmark.

Circle your calendar to stay and play in Sweetwater, an entertaining stop along the Tanasi Trail, one of the 16 regional trails in Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways, your pass to the backroads that will help you discover what lies off the beaten path in Tennessee.
