Rugged Beauty, History Lessons, Wildlife & Water

Northwest

Somewhere between boating, birding, wildlife and history, Northwest Tennessee whispers a challenge. Are you ready to do something you’ll never forget? Go where bald eagles nest or where the forest and lake become one.

Experience the call of the wild. The paradise of Northwest Tennessee is a dramatic landscape tailor-made for outdoor explorers.

Explore the flooded cypress forest at mysterious Reelfoot Lake which was created by an earthquake. Paris Landing State Park on gigantic Kentucky Lake and nearby Land Between the Lakes provide a vacation playground, teeming with water sports, golfing, biking, fishing, hiking and camping. Take time for a history lesson in the great outdoors while seeing relics and a Civil War monument at Lake Barkley.

Get in on a different kind of action at Discovery Park of America in Union City. Experience the one-of-a-kind interactive motion simulator. Zoom down a super-fast slide along a 48-foot human form. Control a huge globe to drain the world’s oceans. Race solar-powered airplanes. Play with “Live Sand.” See antique cars in the Transportation Hall. Discover a suit of armor and other treasures after you slide behind a bookcase. Feel how the New Madrid earthquakes changed the land. Press your nose against a 20,000-gallon aquarium.

Taste the sweet flavors at the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival. Sink your teeth into crispy Southern-fried catfish, a deep-fried tradition at the World’s Biggest Fish Fry in Paris. The Trenton Teapot Collection is the largest collection of rare porcelain nightlight teapots brought from Asia, Europe and Africa. Gaze at real pearls in the making at Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Farm, and take home a strand from your memorable trip to Northwest Tennessee.
