Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided and equipped kayak tour at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge to view the migrating Sandhill Cranes.

The group will kayak around the perimeter of the 400-acre Hiwassee Island with Outdoor Chattanooga's experienced guides. The wildlife refuge area attracts a variety of birds due to its combination of cultivated, forested and interior wetlands. During the winter, migrating waterfowl, as many as between 15,000 and 20,000 cranes have been known to overwinter on Hiwassee Island. This site has the largest winter flock of Sandhill Cranes in the southeast United States outside of Florida.

The Hiwassee Refuge is located at the confluence of the Tennessee and Hiwassee Rivers about one hour north of Chattanooga near the town of Birchwood.
