The Dickson County Fair Association board of directors continues to give fairgoers what they want by blending tradition with demand. The 93rd annual Dickson County Fair begins Monday, September 4, 2017 at the county fairgrounds off Highway 47 in Dickson, and runs through Saturday.
The traditional agricultural and home economics contests, beauty pageants, demolition derbies and carnival rides return to the midway; but new and resurrected activities are scheduled too.
Among the new attractions returning from last year’s fair are the carnival rides from Family Attractions Amusements, the big tractor and big truck pulls, truck tug-o-war, and kids’ Power Wheels derby.
“We’ll have all the home-ec exhibits – canning, flower arranging – up in the Crosby Center, all the crops in the crop barn,” Manley said. “The 4-H building will have exhibits in it; all the livestock shows; the Chandler Building will have exhibits.
Of course you can’t forget the fair food, Wildlife and forestry exhibits will be on display too.
Lot’s of Pulls and derbies. A local street truck pull will follow the big pulls Friday night.
Demolition derbies are scheduled Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights in the arena. The Monday night derby features compact cars, the Wednesday night derby stock cars, and the Saturday night derby modified stock cars. Derbies begin at 8 p.m. each night, with registration from 4-6 p.m.
The traditional beauty pageants will take place throughout the week, except Wednesday, in the Greer Building. Miss Dickson County Fairest of the Fair beauty pageant, for ages 16-20, is scheduled Monday at 7 p.m. Little Miss Fairest of the Fair pageant, ages 4-6, is Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Princess Miss Fairest of the Fair, ages 7-9, is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Pre-Teen Miss Fairest of the Fair pageant, ages 10-12, is Friday at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the baby girls and boys pageant, 0 months old-47 months old, goes from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and the Junior Miss Fairest of the Fair pageant, ages 13-15, starts at 6 p.m.
The 8th annual Senior Citizens Day is Friday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., with free gate and parking. The livestock barns and exhibit buildings will be open for viewing. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon.
Friday night is Student Night from 9:30 p.m.-1 a.m., when the gate price drops to $5.
Fairgoers also can ride a mechanical bull nightly, and enjoy music and karaoke under the pavilion, and petting zoo and pony rides.
