Saturday, June 10,. 2017 is the annual Free Fishing Day across the state of Tennessee and the annual Kids Fishing Rodeo presented by the Dickson Parks and Recreation Department. The annual rodeo begins at 6 am Saturday at City Lake in J. Dan Buckner Park. There will be prizes awarded in several categories for the biggest catches and drawings for a variety of prizes donated by area businesses. The lake has been stocked in preparation for the parks department’s annual rodeo. The rodeo is free for all ages with prizes for children. For more information call the parks department at 446-1721. The first Saturday of each June is a Free Fishing Day during which the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency allows all residents and non-residents to fish without obtaining a fishing license in any public waters. Children 15 and under can fish without a license for the entire week starting on Free Fishing Day until the following Friday. Children under 13 can fish without a license year round. The TWRA sponsors many free fishing day events and stocks thousands of pounds of catfish in selected area lakes and ponds for the day. For a list of events and more information, visit tn.gov/twra.
