LAWRENCEBURG COMMUNITY THEATRE PRESENTS:
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS
Lawrence County, Tennessee’s premier producer of staged theater, the Lawrenceburg Community Theatre, presents the musical comedy, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, based on the popular classic 1954 MGM film starring Howard Keel and Jane Powell. The play is set at the beginning of the 20th century in Oregon and tells the story of Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, who goes to town to get a wife. He convinces Milly to marry him and return with him to his backwoods home. Only then does she discover he has six brothers--all living in his cabin. Milly sets out to reform the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. Then, after reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam develops a solution to his brothers' loneliness. He takes his brothers to town where they kidnap six girls. When they cross a gorge, an avalanche blocks the narrow passage for pursuers, leaving the girls trapped for the winter. Milly keeps the girls in the house and sends Adam and his brothers to the barn. As in all romantic comedies, after all problems are solved the play ends with seven brides for seven brothers.
The script for the musical is written by Lawrence Kasha and David S. Landay with original movie music by Gene De Paul and lyrics by Johnny Mercer. LCT is producing the show by special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Recorded orchestration is provided by The MTPit.
The show is directed by Dolly B. Leighton with choreography by Mary Ann Trimble.
