Hatch Show Print: Tour the Legendary Print Shop

One of America’s oldest working letterpress print shops, Hatch Show Print has created original art for Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and numerous Grand Ole Opry stars, along with many of today’s artists from Willie Nelson to The Black Keys.

The iconic Hatch Show Print design dates back to the family business’ very first print job—a handbill announcing the appearance of Rev. Henry Ward Beecher (brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe). William H. Hatch taught his sons the craft of letterpress printmaking and the Nashville family made a name for themselves by bringing balanced type size and style to simplistic show posters.

That power to invoke excitement and sell shows on ink and paper benefitted minstrel performances and vaudeville acts and did great work for the African-American jazz and blues entertainers of the day. It also captured country music’s golden era.

Though the company has changed ownership several times over the years, the Hatch name holds an ever-important place in Southern culture and the entertainment world. Thriving in a digital age, Hatch Show Print designs and prints between 500 and 600 different posters a year for artists and venues worldwide, carrying on those 19th-century letterpress practices that William’s sons learned three generations ago.

Discover Hatch Show Print’s four spaces—a large print shop where posters roll off the presses; a store where you can view and purchase 100-plus posters, logo apparel and other souvenirs; Hatch Show Print's Haley Gallery, featuring historic originals; and a classroom and workshop space for demonstrations and hands-on printing.

You can practically feel the magic and energy of performances past, and hear the singing from the posters along the gallery and store walls. Celebrate this legacy on a guided tour through the history of Hatch Show Print. See where these one-of-a-kind posters are created, learn about letterpress printing, immerse yourself in the process, and print your own commemorative poster to take home.
