KINGSPORT ---Renaissance Arts Center Formally the John Sevier School, the Kingsport Renaissance Arts Center was renovated in 1991 and serves as the primary community center in Kingsport. The Renaissance Arts Center houses the City of Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts, The Symphony of the Mountains, KingsportARTS, Kingsport Theater Guild, the Kingsport Art Guild and the Kingsport Senior Center. The Kingsport Theater Guild located in the Renaissance Center is dedicated to bringing the art of theater to the Kingsport area and routinely holds performances in the Renaissance Arts Center Theater. The theater holds about 350 people. The Kingsport Art Guild has utilized the facility for office space and has turned the second floor into an elaborate art gallery. The gallery showcases local artists and art of local interest. Located on the 1st floor of the Renaissance Arts Center is the Kingsport Senior Center. The Senior Center holds classes and programs for the enjoyment of the entire Kingsport area. The center also contains gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and other sports teams of the area for both practice and games. The facility also contains a cafeteria and an atrium for large gatherings such as a wedding or business meetings. Today the Renaissance Arts Center is owned and managed by the City of Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts. Most of the first floor is assigned to the Kingsport Senior Center, while upper floors house such organizations as KingsportARTS, Kingsport Theatre Guild, Symphony of the Mountains, Kingsport Art Guild, and Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia. Meeting rooms, the Atrium, a 350-seat theatre and other facilities within the building are managed and leased by the City for business meetings, parties, receptions, classes, showers, performances, and athletic events. Theatrical performances and concerts are scheduled in the 350-seat theatre throughout the year. The theatre is available for meetings and seminars and is an ideal facility for 200 people, with nearby breakout rooms, suitable for all day functions with or without meals. A variety of rooms are available for rent, as well as a three-story atrium that seats 50 on each level. The atrium is ideal for a registration and refreshment area for up to 200 people. This arrangement is ideal to incorporate along with the use of the theatre, room 239, room 310, and/or the art gallery. The three levels of the sky lit atrium lend themselves to various forms of gatherings.
