Front Street was the site of a Mobile & Ohio Railroad station, and also home to Henderson's first businesses in the 1800s. Today, the street continues to thrive with unique shops like LaVon's Timeless Treasures, Happy Kids Consignment Shop and Robertson's Trading Post. To the north, you will find Henderson Cemetery which is the final resting place of Dr. J.D. Smith, Sr. who developed the City of Henderson in 1871, N.B. Hardeman of Freed-Hardeman University, and Hubert T. McGee, the architect of the Pink Palace in Memphis. Across Main Street from Front Street, is the First United Methodist Church which was organized and built on the current lot in 1872, burned in 1890 and rebuilt in 1892. The exterior was used for funeral scenes in the 1972 filming of "Walking Tall". Just down Main, you will find the Chester County Chamber of Commerce, the Chester County Courthouse and Freed-Hardeman University.
