As the best-selling contemporary Christian music singer, with over 30 million sales worldwide, Amy Grant is also an author, media personality, actress and songwriter. She made her debut as a teenager, gaining fame in Christian music during the 80s. She became one of the first contemporary Christian music artists to successfully cross over into mainstream pop. Winner of multiple Grammy awards and numerous Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, Grant had the first Christian album to go platinum. She's been honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame for contributions to the entertainment industry.
Grant moved to Nashville in 1967. She performed the first song she ever wrote in 1976 at Harpeth Hall, the Nashville all girls school she attended, recording a demo tape for her parents. She was offered a recording contract five weeks before her sixteenth birthday. It was released in spring of 1978, one month before her high school graduation.
In September 2012, she was featured in a campaign called "30 Songs/30 Days" to support Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, a multi-platform media project inspired by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's book.
