The first hospital built to care for African American patients in 1906 was located inside a gothic revival cottage which had operating facilities and 33 patient rooms. The hospital existed for 48 years until Clarksville Memorial Hospital was built in 1954 and was open to all patients. The Burt Home Infirmary burned in 1992.
