Cordell Hull Lake is located on the Cumberland River in Smith, Jackson, and Clay counties.
The lake is named after distinguished Tennessee native Cordell Hull who served in the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate and as Secretary of State under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Hull was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 1945 for his efforts towards promoting world peace and harmony.
